Analysis of factors related to etiology of chronic pancreatitis

  • Objective To investigate etio1ogy re1ated factors of chronic pancreatitis.Methods The retrospective analysis was conducted among 108 patients with chronic pancreatitis hospitalized from August 2008 to June 2009.Results Thirty five patients had no clear etiologic causes, but related etiologic causes were found for 73 patients, including biliary diseases for 7 patients (6.5%), smoking history for 43 patients (39.8%), alcohol abuse for 50 patients (46.3%), pancreatic operation or underlying pancreatic disease history for 4 patients (3.7%),hyperlipemia for 9 patients (8.3%),hypercalcemia for 1 patients (0.9%).Conclusion The analysis indicated that alcohol abuse was the main etiologic cause of chronic pancreatitis, biliary disease was a seldom etiologic cause.
